Editorial: In a nutshell:
As if the idea of five games in one package didn't sound a good enough deal on its own the Wii's best multiplayer compendium comes free with the console.

The lowdown:
Clearly realising that they need to provide some quick and obvious reasons why the Wii Remote is such a good idea Nintendo have packed in this compilation with the console, which includes simple versions of tennis, golf, baseball, bowling and boxing. The four player tennis game is the obvious stand out as you swing the Remote exactly as you would a real tennis racket, with the game seeming to almost magically interpret your movements into the game. All the other games work in a similar way, as you hold the Remote like a golf club or ready it like a baseball bat - you can even use it to gently roll bowling bowls and add some subtle aftertouch. The graphics make be purposefully basic but these are the games to instantly prove why the Wii is going to be such a revolution.

Most exciting moment:
While even Wii Tennis can be played with very minor movements of the Wii Remote the boxing game actively encourages you to act things out properly. You hold up both the Remote and the nunchuck to simulate your two hands and then duck and weave as you switch between trying to pummel your opponent and dodging or blocking their own attacks.

Since you ask:
You can use your own customised Mii Channel character in any of the games for that personal touch. The idea was originally just a joke featuring caricatures of Nintendo's top brass for a press conference, but it proved so popular that Nintendo ensured anyone could make their own character to play with.

The bottom line:
Five of the best games on the Wii and they all come free with the console!-HARRISON DENT

5 out of 5  "Superb" - 22 December 2006
I own an xbox 360. Connected to a 1080hd sony lcd tv. Yet somehow the wii still trumphs the 360 in terms of immediate wow factor. The 360 gfx are stunning but hardly anyone in my family can play gears of war. After opening the wii and setting it up, everyone was playing it. The gameplay is superb. Wii sports and wii play are great starter titles. bowling, tennis et all its great fun. I downloaded sonic for the mega drive in 40seconds and it was excellent port onto the wii. Last night when I woke up the blue light was glowing telling me that I can now access the internet using my wii on my tv. Wow. Its a really well put together package. Small, quiet, fun and enjoyable for kids and adults. The controllers are a little expensive. I've got a SD card for it and rgb cables too.

Cannot recommend this console enough. While my 360 will remain my main online gaming machine since Live is still untouched by Ninty or Sony, this is the machine that will be fired up the most.

4 out of 5  "A real Wii Review" - 10 December 2006
Hi, I was lucky enough to get a Wii in the first release of pre-orders from Amazon.

Here is my brief review, first some background. I've been gaming for nearly 20years, I've owned Amstrad 464, Amiga, Spectrum, Commodore 64, N64, PC's, PS 1, PS2, XBOX, PSP, and a Nintendo DS so I've played a lot of games on various platforms.

The first thing that strikes you when you open the packaging is how small this thing is. It's not much bigger in footprint than a DVD case, and only about 3-4 times thicker.

When you turn it on your immediately think this is a bit strange, you point at the screen to make choices with the Wii Remote. It takes about 10 minutes to get used to and then seems normal.

Wii Sports is awesome, the graphics are very Nintendo so don't expect anything like XBOX360 Hi Def. They are functional and that is it, nothing special at all but to be honest that isn't the point of this console. The gameplay is very very good even on Wii Sports. The action gets even better when you have friends over, it is highly amusing to play bowling or tennis or boxing with more than one person.

I think this is an excellent product, it's great fun, cheap, and as developers imagination gets used to the format then I think it will get even better software.

For kids and familys i think this will have great staying power but I'm not sure how long adults will put up with the basic graphics. Time will tell I guess but overall so far after about 8 hrs playing I'm impressed.

5 out of 5  "Wii will rock you!!!" - 9 December 2006
I pre-ordered a Wii and got it on December 8th and I am very pleased with it! The controller fits perfectly into the hand and the control system is very responsive (i.e when you move the remote the character responds to the movement without delay). The graphics, although not High Definition, are very good and in most cases quite breathtaking! The sound is too also of a very high quality! WiiConnect24 is a useful feature so your console is always updated and you can get new content sent to you overnight (providing it is pluged in)!It is something new and it works well! You have to try it to realise just how brillient it is. Good work Nintendo!

5 out of 5  "A true 'Revolution'" - 9 August 2006
I have a Gamecube in the house, however I only ever really played one game on it (it belongs to the wife), I am just not a computer game person. My wife wanted the Wii, so I made sure I had it preordered etc (after reading about the rush on the XBox 360 a year ago). So far we have the Sports game which came with it and Wii Play which I got to get the extra controller. I have found both disks to be great fun, and for me much more engaging than sitting twiddling a joystick and pressing buttons on the Gamecube pad. However I think the most telling thing is that my 4 year old son so far has never managed to master any game on the Gamecube, or even on his simplified VSmile console. Within 10 minutes he had mastered the 10 pin bowling game on the Wii, and managed to score 137, easily beating me! I think this console is brilliant, and not just the same old thing with better graphics. Sure it would have been better still with HD, but even without HD this is a better playing experience than a HD console with the same old control interface. This truly will extend gaming to allow older people and as my son shows younger people to participate in the fun.

5 out of 5  "THE NINTENDO DIFFERENCE" - 23 November 2005
What's the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the word, "videogame"? Perhaps it's that of a teenage boy, playing away on a joypad, in a darkened room...

STOP RIGHT THERE!! Nintendo, the company which is to gaming what Disney is to animation and what Doctor Who is to science fiction, have done it again! Marrying the the so-easy-your-gran-who's-never-played-a-game-in-her-life-before interface of the world-beating (and PSP-trouncing) Nintendo DS and some of that indefinable Nintendo magic, which has been endlessly copied by rivals but not once recaptured, the latest games machine from the Kyoto based giant is this: Wii.

As soon as you take it out of the box, you'll notice it:it's small.Very small. In fact, official Nintendo spiels claim it to be the size of 3 DVD cases.Compare it to the snap-off-your-arm ludicrousy of the Xboxes and the ugly-as-sin-yet-heavy-as-a whale PS3 and you'll see just how fantastic this is:you can put the white wonder anywhere in your living room/bedroom/stable/sett, and it'll still both look great and fit into just about any space.

Next, the most important but:THE CONTROLLER!! Containing state-of-the-art motion technology (which Sony has shamelessly shoehorned into their system),a loud speaker (a world first),an option to attach a various accessories for various games(including the famous "nunchuk" and a controller for the Virtual Console, but more on that later!), it can be picked up by absolutely anyone, whether they've even seen a videogame before or not, and it's as easy and instinctive as breathing.

Now onto my favourite bit: backwards compatability! It's compatable with every single GameCube game, controller and most accessories (apart from the Game Boy Player, sadly, but Nintendon might release one for the Wii anyway). But this is the really clever bit: via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (with which it is compatable form the box) a gamer can access games from all of Nintendo's previous systems. That means that just about every NES,Super Nintendo and N64 game Nintendo has ever published is going to be (potentially) available. As is this wasn't enough, games from the Sega Mega Drive (yes, you just read that correctly) and the Turbo Graphx System (you might not know of it,but it was huge in Japan). And as if THAT wasn't enough, new games will be developed and published on the Wii's Virtual Console service with ease. Oh, and don't worry about giving details over the internet - it's done using points which you accumulate as you buy games, etc.(A bit like a cross between iTunes and the Stars Catalogue business at nintendo.co.uk.) A NES game costs 500 Wii points, a SNES game 800 and so forth. Bargain!

So don't delay - buy this system, and treat yourself to the greatest game system on Earth. Nintendo are the best games developers on Earth.Bar none. Mario,Zelda,Donkey Kong, Pokemon,Smash Bros.,Metroid... Need I go on? I thought not. So once you finished reading this review, take a deep breath, clear your mind, and then think about all the fun a Wii will bring you and all of your family and friends (yes, even Auntie Margaret!) Then buy a Wii. You'll never look back. That, I can promise you.

4 out of 5  "Wii are amused" - 20 January 2007
I have been a gamer since getting a ZX81 for my tenth birthday, I have owned many systems both console and computer based.
No other caught my attention the way the Wii did, the only thing that came close was the jump from the 2D systems to the likes of the original Playstation.
On receiving my Wii I can now say Wii Sports is one of the most Fun games I have ever played it had me grinning for hours, I can not recall the last game that had that affect on me.
Nintendo seem to have got everything right for once, apart from the availability or lack of it that is. I look forward to what this console has to offer. It take developers time to get to grips with what a system can do, and you only start to see the best of the system 12 months or so in to is life. From what I have seen so far Nintendo the former king of the video gaming world has returned to top form and is spoiling for a fight to reclaim its title.

4 out of 5  "rediscover your love of gaming" - 16 December 2006
Not many gadgets these days make you sit up and take notice, be assured the nintendo wii will be remembered and loved over the next few years and be affectionaly remembered like the original playstation, ipod and dyson. Nintendo have remembered that the whole process of gaming should be fun and has the potential to involve all members of the family. Whilst not as powerfull as the xbox 360 (which is a worthy console) and the forthcoming PS3 - the Wii has a charm and innocence all of its own.
Whilst I still believe that the original playstation and the gameboy are the most important consoles ever released (and the amstrad gx4000 among the worst) - the nintendo wii has shown a level of innovation that deserves high praise. Rediscover your love of gaming.

5 out of 5  "Do not pay through the nose on marketplace" - 19 February 2007
If you want to get hold of one of these consoles then £300+ is too much to pay you are being ripped off. Order via Amazon.de, the German version accepts your UK login and your address book comes up too. I got my Wii for £165 including delivery and it took less than a week to arrive. Advised a couple of friends to do the same with the same pleasing results. Loving the Wii, highly recommend it but do not line these sharks pockets with your hard earned cash.

5 out of 5  "just for fun" - 29 April 2007
lets be honest this is not an xbox or a ps 3 beater.but what it does is give you hours of fun having a laugh and shedding a few pounds after a few games of boxing(saved money on going to the gym)it is well worth buying fir the kids or you want a laugh but for a serious console buy a 360 but the wii is great fun

4 out of 5  "Wii Console" - 4 May 2007
Over the years as a family we have had a variety of Consoles & games. I stick with an ageing PC now & the wife has been without for some time as the PS2 was liberated by our children. She has wanted a Wii for some time but Christmas & birthday have passed her by until I spotted one for sale at the RRP on Amazon. Ordered the Wii about Midnight on Tuesday, using free delivery option & it arrived Thursday 1pm! We've had great fun so far & the TV now has something far more fun & useful on it than most of the channels have on offer. The wife is disabled so we are somewhat housebound & the Wii has already got her moving with the 5 sports games that come with the console. Even without reading instructions (in too much detail) it has been fairly intuitive to set up & use & has put the fun back into gaming which we have missed in recent times. We haven't tried connecting it online yet but there is plenty of help & documentation available for using the Wii. So far it is a big thumbs up from us, for the Wii & for Amazon for the fast delivery. Get one if you can.

14/5 .... Since writing this review I reset my Livebox to allow for a wirelesss connection & getting online with the Wii proved fairly straightforward, able to browse most sites using the free (at present) Opera Browser, though we have to adjust the font size for clarity. We also got a 2nd controller with the Wii Play games, more simplistic fun. All told, now the novelty factor has worn off we still find it a fun machine, just needs more good games & online play to supplement the surfing.
