Editorial: In a nutshell:
If you want as gentle an introduction as possible to the world of Wii then this user-friendly compilation of mini-games is just the thing for you, with a collection of games that are as easy to play as they are fun.

The lowdown:
It might be easy to use but the Wii is still a pretty unusual beast and a bit of a culture shock from the overly complex controllers of other consoles. This compilation of mini-games aims to ease you in gently with simple to play games that only need the Wii Remote to enjoy. These include games of table tennis, air hockey (or Laser Hockey as the game would have it) and an updated of NES classic Duck Hunt. There's also Wii Billiards, a fishing sim and a number of games which use your customised Mii Channel character, including Wii Pose and the Where's Wally style Find Mii. Since many of these games have a multiplayer mode the game also comes bundled with an extra Remote (but not a nunchuck), which usually sells for £29.99 separately.

Most exciting moment:
Although all of the games are fun the best one is probably the Duck Hunt update (which also has you shooting UFOs and other non-avian enemies). Perhaps what's most exciting about it is that it proves how good other light gun franchises, such as Virtua Cop and Time Crisis would be on the Wii.

Since you ask:
Many of the mini-games included with Wii Play, such as Duck Hunt and Table Tennis, were first seen as technical demos at the E3 trade conference in May 2006, when the Wii was first revealed in playable form.

The bottom line:
The beginner's guide to Wii, with a handy extra controller. - HARRISON DENT

"Good Deal!" by Adam, from North-West England - 4 February 2007

Overall Rating:4.6 out of 5Recommended

When I found out this Wii Play came with a free Wii Remote and its price was only £34.99 in most places I was shocked! I went into Gamestation's shop and it was the last one! I was Amazed as I heard they were hard to get. I bought it and the game is great its really addictive and great for 2 Players. The Graphics are not good but you don't really take that in, its just plain Fun! I recommend it if your after a controller too!

"Simple but fun" by Sam, from Huddersfield,England - 8 April 2007

Overall Rating:3.8 out of 5Recommended

This game is very simple but is very well priced to say you get a free remote with it. There are 9 very fun games to play. The multiplayer is where this game is best it is very fun to play with freinds and family. I would reccomend this game because it is very cheap you get a free wii remote and is very fun on single player and multiplayer.

4 out of 5  "Another Party Game Hit" - 26 January 2007
Like it's mini-games compatriot, Wii Sports, Wii Play is compromised of several games which you can play. The best of which, in my opinion, are Pool and Laser Hockey however the rest are also fun and entertaining to play. As a single player game it is good fun with the aim being to beat your previous score and earn medals. However, it is in two player mode, that Wii Play shines. Playing the games in any order you like and as many times you like you have a scoreboard that keeps track how many times each Mii has won a game. In the party environment or just with a mate this competitive edge really makes the game fun.

4 out of 5  "Great Multiplayer" - 12 January 2007
I bought this game because it came with an extra remote and I thought that an extra few pound for the game wasn't bad. The first time I played this game I thought that it was a average. Mainly because the first few games are'nt very good however some of the later ones are great.
I invited two girls round to play it and they wanted to play it all day. Bearing in mind these are the kind of people who don't own any console and have never wanted to play video games in their life.
The multiplayer is where this game really comes to life. You can play it for hours. My favourite games are "charge", where you steer a cow into scarecrows to get points (it sounds lame but is seriously fun with the wiimote). Tanks and laser hockey are also brilliant.
Overall if this game was £40 then I wouldn't buy it but for an extra fiver you will definitely get your money's worth.

5 out of 5  "Beyond expectations" - 13 January 2007
I decided to buy Wii Play because the value of having a game and controller for £35. The extra £5 is really worth it. It is a game that you can play with a party of friends and never get dull or boring. I have played it with my girlfriend and shared many laughs and enjoyment playing it. The games are simple but have the recipe for being enjoyable addictive. If you are wanting an extra controller, pay the additional £5 to get Wii Play!

4 out of 5  "Wii Play Great For Family!!!!" - 3 January 2007
Wii Play is great vaule for £32.99. Considering you get a Wii remote included (Wii remote sole is £XXX), your really getting the software for £xxx!!!!!

Well honestly the games are quite shallow but also fun. Table tennis, Pool, Shooting Range & Charge will definately make you come back for more! The other games are not that much in depth. I can't see them really being long lasting, however this title wasn't meant to be long lasting. It's there for easy access to pick up and play in small bursts, and it shines definately in this catergory.

Definately one for your Wii collection!

4 out of 5  "The best 5 pound game ever!" - 1 January 2007
9 games; 2 or 3 of which will keep you coming back, depends on you as to which ones it will be. For me the shooting game alone made it worth it (the inclusion of a wiimote made this game effectively only cost 5 pounds, so I can take that into account) but I also like the laser hockey and cow racing. Short, shallow and gimmicky but it shows you what your Wii can do.

You want another wiimote, you want another game, you want this.

5 out of 5  "Wii Play - Value For Money" - 29 December 2006
Wii play, priced at around £35 should be regarded as a definite purchase purely due to its value for money. In effect you are paying £5 for a game with an additional £30 (retail value) for a wii remote.

Wii play itself is actualy rather fun, given its low price tag. I must admit my single player experience with the game has been nothing if dull. However, the mini games realy are entertaining, especialy the duck hunting.

Games worth mentioning are Shooting, Laser Hockey and Tanks, although wiiplay makes you play through all the minigames in order to progressivly unlock them.

Shooting does take a certain degree of skill (i am hopeless at it). You are given a number of stages in which to achieve high points in. You shoot at plates, targets, ducks, coke cans and even aliens. Overall, it stands out as the most entertaining minigame.

Laser hockey definitly draws inspiration from pong, and it is rumoured to have a physics engine equivelant to doom 3. However, i found the controls slightly too jerky and jittery.

Table Tennis was the major disapointment. The controls are also too sensitive and jittery. It becomes almost impossible to play shots at times, and it is worse when you are not playing the computer.

Overall, Wiiplay is the ideal accompaniment too the Wii console, especialy as it comes with a free remote. After playing wiiplay, i found using the remote on other games far easier than i might have done without, and the multiplayer is second to none. The learning curve is around 5 minutes, which is ideal for non gamers or youngsters.

4 out of 5  "Excellent party game" - 28 December 2006
This game is the most fun I've had in years. Every single game is brilliant and it introduces all the aspects of the wii. All of them are multi-player and if you can round up 3 mates who have a controller each, you have simply the best multi-player experience ever. My personal favourite is Charge! a game where you have to control a bull/cow and knock over scarecrows. All of them are tremendous fun, but some are better than others. Shooting is great, and as the name suggests it has you shooting ducks, clay pigeons, targets and UFO's. Pool is fun and always works well in 2 player, but it takes a while to get used to. Laser hockey is tedious, but is so addictive it's untrue. Ping-pong is easy but the game sometimes randomly ends and says you've won. Tanks uses the nunchuck and is one where you always come back to beat your own high scores. Fishing is so brilliant and it is the best in multi-player. Pose me is rock hard and takes ages to master. Find mii is great in single player, not quite sure about multi-player though. That is all of them. Plus you get a controller with it all for £35; only £5 more than a remote on it's own. This is a great game and it is a bargain. Not as good as wii sports mind. I want wii play 2! Just think more games and it could come with an new extension perhaps? Wait and see.

3 out of 5  "It's fun... but not enough!" - 7 February 2007
Wii Play was one of the first games I purchased for my Nintendo Wii. For its price, it is an absolute bargain, but mainly just for getting a Wiimote for pretty much nothing!

I have deeply mixed feelings about this game. There are some very good points about it, but at the same time those bad things bring it down enough to not give it a 4-star rating.

When you first start playing the game, it seems great as you begin to get immersed in the colour and excitement of the game, and cannot stop playing it for a while - you end up thinking you will never stop playing it!

...One hour down the line, and the novelty is starting to wear off. You have unlocked all the games, and are scrolling through the 9 mini-games, trying to find one you might want to play again. You eventually pick one and play it for a few minutes.

Within another half-hour, the Wii is off and you're busy doing something else. Unless you are a really devoted player, you have not bothered playing them all again loads to win all the gold medals and best scores.

There really isn't much to it than that. A game worth playing for a while, but nothing you will want to devote the rest of your afternoon to.

Good Points

A good use of the Wiimote and Nunchuck for 'Tanks', making the most out of the Wii's controlling system.
A range of games to keep you occupied, and some that will keep you playing for a while!
Very fun two-player action - a lot more fun multiplayer than single.
Chances to set high scores and challenge your friends and family to try and best them.
You get to use your Mii's in one of the only other games besides Wii Sports - that's got to be great!

Bad Points

Gameplay begins to seem repetitive very quickly.
It's simply boring one-player - it only really gets fun when you have two people battling each other for the top score!
Multiplayer only extends to two people playing at one time - although it is possible to have up to four, the game makers didn't want to seem to use this feature, which would have made the game twice as good, in my opinion.
There's not much variety to what you are playing - different modes of the games could have added extra gameplay, extra features to enhance gameplay and create more original gameplay scenarios, such as Training, Tournaments, Elimination Rounds and so on.

The mini-games that do deserve a mention are Charge!, Laser Hockey and Shooting. They are all great mini-games and are the ones I spent most of the time playing - Laser Hockey, although just a newer version of 'Pong', still seems original and great for two players! Charge is riding through a countryside on a berserk cow, crashing into things and smashing things up! What's there not to love? Shooting is tactical and fun for everyone.

The mini-game that I had high-hopes for being really fun and time-devoting was Table Tennis, but it's just a let-down. All you do is vollying, back and forth, back and forth, over and over. There's no skill involved, besides moving the bat left or right, and even thats sometimes hard - the control system is clunky and hard to get to grips with. However, you can execute power vollies, which add an extra touch to the game.

Overall, it is a great game for the money, and well worth it just to get another Wiimote, but don't buy it expecting to have a long, good time playing it. It won't last you long, but it will be a very fun ride while it lasts.
Best played in short bursts, and only with at least one other person.

4 out of 5  "Good package" - 2 March 2007
For the price, I guess you can't go wrong - providing you treat the game as the 'extra' bit. But overall im fairly pleased, and if your looking to get an extra remote, then look no further, as you might as well get this collection of game with it for a small extra cost.
Unfortunately, the only downside of the games is that while they do improve your handling of the WiiMote, the games don't handle realistically enough to make you want to keep playing.
The newer version of Duck Hunt seems to be a game that you'll keep coming back to, but is best on a mulit player, as is the cow racing game (bizarre idea but there you go!). Ping Pong for example - great idea, but is let down by the fact that you only need a slight movement in your arm to make the paddle go all over the place, so you can play it with 2 hands and sitting down to keep it precise! Had the control been the same as Wii Tennis, it would have been a great game.
Laser Hockey falls into this trap too, it feels quite awkard, though some practice may improve your game. Billiards is a nice game - some say a little boring, but I think its quite a good idea, and once you get the the hang of it, you'll really enjoy it! Fishing is a descent game, though pretty simple, and Find Mii is a nice addition, though rather than improve your WiiMote handling, looks at your vision. And if you get past Level 5, you've done very well!
Tanks is a good idea, though won't keeped you hooked really, and another game expect you to place your Mii in lots of falling bubbles, while constantly changing the body shape to adapt to it.
It won't keep you hooked, but you'll certainly want to go back to play the odd game some time, but the stand out games are probably Billiards (for being the most realistic, suprisngly) and Charge (For being the funnest).

4 out of 5  "great value" - 12 June 2007
Wii play is a collection of mini games designed to help master the wii-mote controller. None of them stand out but all are amusing party games. The main draw is the value of getting an extra wii-mote and game together.
well worth getting but don't expect too much of the games.
